How Modern Orthodontics Works

Modern orthodontics uses a wide range of techniques and technologies to correct dental misalignments and occlusion problems (how the upper and lower teeth come together). It aims to improve the aesthetics of the smile, as well as the functionality of the jaw and overall oral and general health.

Benefits of Orthodontics

  • Improvement of Oral Hygiene: Well-aligned teeth are easier to clean. This reduces the risk of dental cavities and gum disease, as there are fewer places for plaque and bacteria to accumulate.
  • Correction of Chewing Problems: Orthodontics can correct malocclusion issues (misalignment of the upper and lower teeth), making it easier to chew food and aid digestion.
  • Improvement of Speech: Some speech problems are caused by incorrect positioning of the teeth or jaws. Correcting the alignment of the teeth can help improve speech clarity.
  • Prevention of Premature Tooth Wear: Malocclusion can lead to uneven wear of the teeth. Orthodontics helps to evenly distribute chewing forces, preventing premature wear.
  • Potential Reduction of Joint Pain and Headaches: Dental misalignments can cause excessive tension on the jaw, leading to joint pain or headaches. By aligning the teeth, orthodontics can positively impact and potentially relieve these symptoms.
  • Preparation for Future Dental Treatments: Orthodontics may be necessary to prepare the mouth for other dental treatments, such as implants, bridges, or crowns, by aligning the teeth for optimal fit.
  • Improvement of Dental Aesthetics: Misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, and malocclusions detract from the appearance of a beautiful smile. Orthodontic treatments can help align teeth, reduce gaps, and correct malocclusions, improving dental aesthetics and providing a perfect smile.
  • Significant Increase in Self-Esteem: Finally, a beautiful smile can have a significant impact on self-esteem and confidence, positively influencing social and professional interactions. For a child or adolescent, this is crucial to maximize their chances of success.
